About Us – The Story Behind Fresh Coast Coffee Company

Fresh Coast Coffee started with a love for great coffee, a bit of curiosity, and a lot of weekend mornings spent reading with a cup in hand. We first discovered specialty coffee back in college in Madison, Wisconsin. It became part of our routine—slow mornings, good books, and even better coffee.

When we met years later in Chicagoland, one of the first things we bonded over was our shared love of quality coffee. But as life got busier, access to great coffee got harder. Scott ended up stuck drinking office coffee—burnt, bitter, and uninspiring. Eventually, he gave up coffee (and caffeine) entirely for 15 years.

Then one day, on a visit back to Madison, we found ourselves reminiscing about our favorite origins, the flavors we used to love, and wondering why coffee from one region could taste so different from another. That conversation sent us down the rabbit hole. One deep dive into coffee research led to home roasting, which led to sharing beans with family and friends. Their feedback? Overwhelmingly positive. Enough to make us think—maybe this isn’t just a hobby.

That’s how Fresh Coast Coffee was born. We wanted to create something that brought a little extra joy to people’s mornings. Coffee has always been more than just a drink for us—it’s a ritual, a connection, a moment of calm before the day starts.

The name? That comes from our love of the water. We live near Lake Michigan and spend as much time as we can on inland lakes throughout the Midwest. Whether it’s the rhythm of the waves or the stillness of an early morning paddle, there’s something about being on the water that just fits with a great cup of coffee.

At Fresh Coast Coffee, we focus on single-origin beans, carefully roasted to highlight their unique character. No gimmicks, no shortcuts—just really good coffee, crafted with care. We’re excited to share it with you.
